• 1840 Federal Census - Sarah is living with Elias and Sarah in Catharine, Chemung Co., NY as one of the two females under 4 (Mary Elizabeth is 7 and Catherine is 2). John L is male under 5.
• 1850-09-13 Federal census has Sarah(14) living with parents Elias(41) and Sarah(36) at 1446 in Catharine, Chemung Co., NY . Also in the house: Mary(16), John (12), Catherine (10), Jonathan (7). Neighbors to one side: Brazil Ganoung, wife Emiline, daughter Elizabeth (9). Neighbors to the other side: Elias and Hannah Darling and family - George (5) and Sophrona (3). Not sure these Darlings tie in to Darlings we meet in later letters.
• 1860 Federal Census - Sarah (25) lives with Samuel Owen (25) in Covert, Seneca Co., NY.
• 1863 Civil War registration papers - Sarah (28) lives with Samuel (28) in Covert, Seneca Co., NY.
• 1865 NY Census - where is Sarah? Is Samuel off fighting Civil War?
• 1870 Federal census - Sarah (35) lives with her parents, Elias and Sarah Ganoung in Lodi, Seneca Co., NY. Her son, Elbert, is 0-1 years old at this time. Her husband, Samuel(33), is in Veteran, Chemung Co.,NY living with his cousin Horatio(33), Horatio's wife Eliza Cooper Owen(33) and their daughter Hattie(2). This is THE WORST census entry I have ever seen: Honsez Owins, Eizia, Hattia and Samule. OMG
• 1875 NY census - Sarah (40) is living with Samuel (39) in Catharine. In the house, son Elbert (6) and niece Ida M Ganung (5). Ida is John L Ganung's daughter from Michigan. They live next door to Emaline Ganung (54) and her grandkids Ida M. King(11) and Zela G King(9)
• 1880 Federal census - Sarah (45) living with Samuel (44) in Montour (Falls?), NY with niece, Mate Wood (26), and son, Elbert E(11).
• 1887 letter from Louie Thetge - Sarah in Odessa, NY (47) living with Samuel. Also in the house: son Elbert and niece, Helen Augusta Wood (21). The letter is from March. Sarah passes in August.
• Transcription error in the online reading of the Lawrence Cemetery in the town of Catharine lists: Samuel B. Owen d. 8-4-1887 ae 52. Sarah Owen d. 2-4-1887 ae 52. Sarah died August 4, 1887.
