• 1870-07-08 Federal census for Ovid, Seneca Co., NY has Mate(17) living with Hiram Lamoreaux(32) and wife Matilda(34). Mate is a domestic servant. Brother George lives with Combs family nearby.
• 1880 Federal census has Mate(26) living "a double life". 1) 1880-06-01 in Montour, Schuyler Co., NY with Uncle Sam(44) and Aunt Sarah(45) Owen and their son Elbert E(11). 2) 1880-06-07 in Catherine, Schuyler Co., NY with grandparents Elias(71) and Sarah(66) and their grandson Elbert E(7). This Elbert is John L Ganoung's son. She's listed as Mary E Wood on this one, but the Ganoungs only have one 26-year old Mary Wood granddaughter. Montour and Catharine are about 3 miles apart. She's 26; she could easily be helping out at both places. Also very curious that John L Ganoung and Sarah (Ganoung) Owen chose to name their boys Elbert E. Coincidence? No way. Who is the OG Elbert E?
• 1900-06-09 Federal census has Mate(46) living alone on Normal Avenue in Mansfield, PA.
• 1910-04-16 Federal census puts Mate(56) working as servant for Benjamin(89) and Lovina(56) Brunning. Boarding there: Flora Mahon(46).
