  • # "Ella" merits a reference in all three letters from Louie Thetge to Helen (Wood) Stage and it's always a first name only. Obviously she's a close friend as Louie uses last names where there might be a need. As Ella Lanigan writes to Helen in the same time frame, making an assumption that she is the "Ella" in question.

  • 1870-06-11 Federal census for Tioga Township, Tioga Co., PA lists the Lannigans: John(45), Mary(28), Brigit(10), Margeret(8), "Ellen"(4), Mary(2). They have a surprising number of others in the house: Jerry Buckley(50), Thomas Toney(25), Patrick Gready(18), Thomas Dunn(17), Jerry Flemming(11), William Amy(30)
  • 1880-06-01 Federal census for Richmond, Tioga Co., PA lists the Lanigans: John(44), Mary(40), "Bridgie"(20), Maggie(18), Ella(13), Mary Ann(12), Katie(8), Eddie(adopted, 5), Theresa(5), Agnes(3) and what can best be "Gooden R"(40). It might be R Gooden?
  • 1887-03-02 to 1890-04-27 Five different letters from Louie Thetge to Helen (Wood) Stage make reference to just hanging out with Ella. All of Louie's letters are postmarked Manasfield, PA.
  • 1890-01-12 Letter from Ella Lanigan to Helen (Wood) Stage puts Ella in Lambs Creek, Tioga Co., PA. She's living with "Maggie and Ed" and mentions other peers and her sister Winnie.
  • 1900-06-05 Federal census for Corning, Steuben Co., NY lists the Lanigans: Mary(56), Ella(33), Anna(32), Catherine(28), Winifred(19). Ella washes cut glass for a living.
  • 1910-04-23 Federal census for Corning Ward 5, Steuben Co., NY lists these 'Landrigans": Mary(68), Helen(39), Anna(37) and Winifred(28). Helen is still a washer at glass works.
  • 1920-01-13 Federal census for Corning Ward 5, Steuben Co., NY the Lanigans are at 157 West 2nd Street: Helen(51), Anna(49), "Winnfred"(31). It looks like butcher John Keffirs(31) and wife Clara(24) rent a room.
