- 1840 Federal census has Maria (listed as male again?) living in Easton Lehigh Ward, Northhampton, PA.with her parents Isaac - male 30-39 and Catherine- femail 30-39. Also present, sibling: John A - male 5-9, Phoebe and Emiiine/Emily - females under 5, Anjoline - female 5-9. The ages map perfectly. Curious about Maria being male through 2 censuses.
- 1850-08-04 Federal census has Maria(23, finally female) living with husband Jackson Saylor(25) in Nottingham, Mercer Co., NJ. With them are two children: William J(4) and Emily E(2). The last name is listed as Taylor.
- 1860-06-21 Federal census has the Saylors living in the Atlanta Ward, Fulton Co., GA. Jackson(36), Maria(33), William(13), Emily(10), Amanda(6), Lewis S(2). Also in the dwelling, John Morgan(37, female?). Jackson and John share occupation - Heater. A heater was an industrial worker in an iron rolling mill who specialized in heating iron pieces (blooms, billets, or puddled bars) in a furnace to a precise temperature.
- 1870-02-07 Federal census of Indianapolis Ward 6, Marion Co., IN Jackson(46), Maria(44), William(24), "Emma"(Emily, 22), Amanda(16), Lewis(12), Carrie(4) and William(4), The younger William disappears after this census. Jackson is now a Superintendent at a Rolling Mill. Older William is a Finisher in Railroad Works.
- 1880-06-21 Federal census - "Saylar" family remains in Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN. Jackson(46) is a Foreman, Maria(44) is keeping house, William(34) still works at the rolling mill, "Emma E"(32), "Louis"(22) and Carrie(13).
- 1900-06-04 - Maria didn't make this census. She passed on April 1st, 1900. For completeness, though, her family is still in Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN. Jackson(76) is still a rolling mill foreman. William(54) is still there. Emma(52) is now Emma Robinson, but mister isn't listed. Carrie H(33) is a school teacher.
